The Practice

Our History

In 1960, Dr Alex Mitchell began a medical practice in the front room of his house in Oakhill Avenue, Reservoir. As the practice grew he built an addition on the back of his house and Reservoir Medical Group was born. He also opened a satellite surgery on Plenty Road, Bundoora.

Dr Mitchell was joined in 1962 by Dr Robert Rogers and in 1965 by Dr Anthony Hyde. Dr Hyde retired in 1995, followed by Dr Mitchell in 1999 and Dr Rogers in 2017. Dr Robert Howsam joined the practice in 1982 and retired in December 2019. Dr Lindsey Hyde joined the practice in 1986 and remains with us as the sole partner.

In 1996 Reservoir Medical opened a third site on the corner of Plenty and Gremel Roads. At this time the practice introduced the onsite ancillary services of pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry and, later, pathology. The Bundoora surgery closed in 1997.

In 2015 Reservoir Medical Group relocated to the Summerhill Shopping Centre, inside Pharmacy 4 Less and both the Oakhill and the Plenty Road surgeries were closed.  In May 2021, Pharmacy 4 Less and our practice moved to new facilities on the opposite side of the shopping centre
